Tears

I’m frightened of the tear,
That glistens beside my eye.
I just can’t explain the fear,
Which tells me not to cry.

A single tear allows,
My mind to fall apart…
And, I fear that tear could douse…
That fire in your heart.

But a smile could ignite it,
And like burning coal we’d glow.
Once by ash benighted,
Now crowned with light of snow.

The tear would light the pathway,
And sadness would turn to glee.
The night would be as bright as day,
Our love like the blossoms of a tree.

All year long we’d flower,
And strengthen the buds with tears,
And each smile would empower
us and take away our fears.
